Linking up again for Sunday Social with Ashley and Neely :)
1. What is your dream job?
If I had to pick, I would love to be a cosmetologist or a makeup artist. I always told my parents that I would have rather gone to cosmetology school than college. I would have loved to have gone through professional training and been able to do hair and/or makeup for a living.
2. If you had just won the lottery and didn’t need to work for money, what would you do with your time?
I would definitely focus on being a freelance makeup artist and enroll in some sort of professional training. Knowing me, though, I would have to find some sort of job just to keep myself busy. I'm sure I'd try to get more involved in the community and volunteer my time somewhere, too. Oh and I would definitely travel as much as possible, considering the farthest out of the country I've been is to Canada!
3. What piece of career advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
Yikes. Where do I start!? Right now I'm a substitute teacher. Finding a full-time teaching job where I live, even with a Master's Degree, is near impossible. If I had to pick one major piece of advice, I would say that networking is one of the best things you can do to put yourself out there. Through subbing you get your foot in the door and get the opportunity to make connections and establish good relationships with a number of schools and teachers that may lead to future full-time positions. Also, with teaching (as with almost every other career), confidence is key, even if you have to fake it. Kids can totally tell when a teacher doesn't know their stuff, and it's important to get up there every day with as much confidence as you can.
4. What would be your ideal “just for fun” job?
I would LOVE to have the chance to be a wedding planner. I know it's a super stressful job, but I think it'd be so much fun!
5. What was your first “real” job?
Working at the local Dairy Queen. HA!
Come back tomorrow for another beauty post :)
