Samy Fat Foam Hair Color Demo/Review & Hair Update

1.06.2014

After making the bold change from blonde to brunette back in October I've been tempted to try other dyes and brands while maintaining my dark locks. I've always wanted to go burgundy/cherry brown so when I saw the perfect color from Samy I knew I had to try it. The color I purchased was Dark Cherry Brown (in the video I keep calling it dark cherry red...my bad). Watch the video below or read on to find out my thoughts on this product!

PROS
THE FOAM | I absolutely loved the fact that the consistency of this dye was a foam. It was hella easy to apply and was nowhere near as messy as the traditional bottled formula dyes.

THE COLOR | I was looking for something with just the tiniest tint of red. I didn't want anything too burgundy or too deep of a red. After probably 20 minutes (no joke) of looking at every brand and every reddish-brown color at the drugstore, this one was the winner.

THE AMOUNT OF PRODUCT | I like to be super thorough when I dye my hair so I almost always use the entire bottle of dye to do my natural hair (when coloring my extensions I use two so I have enough for my clip-ins). I had plenty of product to do my entire head so I used the second box for my extensions. I'd say if your hair is my length or shorter, you'll be good to go with just one box.

CONS
THE INSTRUCTION BOOK | Holy goodness. The amount of detail included in the instruction book was absolutely overwhelming and completely unnecessary. All you need to know is how to mix the hair color (which is pretty self explanatory), and that you should apply from root to tip, then massage the color all over, wait for 30 minutes, rinse until water runs clear then follow with shampoo and conditioner. See!? I explained it in basically 5 steps while the instructions give you like 7 steps for every one step. It's absurd.

BUILDUP | Okay so I admit I was actually a extremely nervous when I started rinsing the color from my hair. Normally once I start rinsing my hair is hella smooth and I have no issues. Not with this stuff! My hair felt so crazy stiff that I was scared my hair would start breaking off or falling out in clumps. Thankfully neither of those things happened. Once the color rinsed from my hair and I followed with the shampoo and conditioner that came with the box, my hair was smooth and shiny as can be. So if your hair stiffens up or you notice a ton of buildup -- don't worry -- all will be well again once you shampoo/condition.

FINAL THOUGHTS | I am in love with this brand. I can deal with the messy instruction book and the buildup of product -- with this hair color, the pros definitely outweigh the cons. I would HIGHLY recommend!

What are your thoughts?
